To keep your Aadhaar card safe from misuse, UIDAI provides a feature that allows you to lock your biometric details. This feature is available to anyone with a valid Aadhaar card, and it lets you quickly lock and unlock your biometric information whenever necessary. By using this feature, you can have better control over your sensitive biometric data and protect it from unauthorized access.
How to Lock Aadhaar Biometrics
Aadhaar Biometrics contains your Fingerprint, Iris and Face recognition data. Once you lock your Aadhaar Biometrics feature, no one no longer will be able to use your Fingerprint, iris, and Face recognization Biometric methods for Aadhaar authentication. This adds an extra layer of protection to your biometric information and prevents unauthorized use of these modalities for any Aadhaar-related activities.
Follow the below steps to lock your Aadhaar Biometrics via the UIDAI official website.
Step 1: Visit UIDAI’s official website.
Visit the official website of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) at https://uidai.gov.in/.
Select your preferred language to enter the website. I select English here.
Step 2: Navigate to Lock/Unlock Biometrics.
Once you are on the homepage, click on My Aadhaar. From the menu, locate Lock/Unlock Biometrics under Aadhaar Services. Now you will be redirected to another page to complete your request.
Step 3: Log in with your Aaddhaar and OTP.
Click on Login.
On the next page enter your Aadhaar number. Next, enter the captcha and click on Send OTP. If all the provided informations are correct, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on Login.
Step 4: Lock Biometrics.
Tap on Lock/Unlock Biometrics under Services.
On the next page, read the information and click on Next.
Tick the box to acknowledge, then click Next.
Your biometrics have been locked successfully. Click on Go to Dashboard.
Step 5: How to verify if you have successfully locked biometrics.
On the service page, Locate the Lock/Unlock Biometrics option. If you see a Red lock sign at the top right corner of the option, you have successfully locked your Aadhaar Biometrics.
How to Unlock Aadhaar Biometrics
If you want to Unlock Aadhaar Biometrics, follow the below steps.
Step 1: Log in to UIDAI’s official website.
Visit UIDAI’s official website at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/. Log in with your Aaddhaar and OTP.
Step 2: Go to Lock/Unlock Biometrics.
Tap on Lock/Unlock Biometrics under Services.
Step 3: Unlock Aadhaar Biometrics temporarily or permanently.
On this screen, you can Unloack Biometrics Temporarily for a short time duration. Or Unblock Biometrics Permanently until the next time you Lock.
Click on the acknowledgement that starts with ‘I Understand…‘ and then select the option you want, Unlock Aadhar Biometrics Temporarily or permanently. Click Next.
You have successfully unlocked the Aadhar Biometrics.
